Vascular Sonography Certificate - CVT7
Vascular Sonography utilizes ultrasound to perform diagnostic testing on patients’ arteries and veins. The vascular sonographer will utilize state-of-the-art equipment to interrogate the vessels, record images/measurements, and study hemodynamic data derived from vascular testing. Vascular Sonography is primarily used in the diagnosis of blood clots, blockages, and aneurysms. Upon diagnosis, these can be treated by a licensed physician or vascular surgeon.
Admission: To become eligible for entry into the Vascular Sonography Certificate major studies coursework, applicants must complete the following:
- Must hold a sonography credential with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). (Examples: RDCS, RDMS, RCS, ACS, RCCS).
- Good academic standing at the college.
Students are required to maintain a current American Heart Association “Basic Life Support” certification throughout the major studies courses. Major Studies Courses: Completion of the Certificate in Vascular Sonography requires two (2) semesters of major studies coursework.

Application and Advising
If you are ready to start your education, there are a few simple steps involved in enrolling at Piedmont Technical College.
Program Requirements
The Vascular Sonography program is available for students who currently hold a sonography credential with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). (Examples: RDCS, RDMS, RCS, ACS, RCCS)
The program is first come first serve. Priority date is determined by admittance to the major.
Program Entry
Apply to the college and complete the enrollment process, which includes submitting a copy of a non-expired credentialing card from ARDMS and/or CCI

Health Care Readmission
Health Care readmission students who fail or withdraw from a Health Care curriculum class must complete and submit a readmission application in order to be considered for readmission.
Program Purpose
The Vascular Sonography Certificate Program provides a registered sonographer with the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills required to perform in the field. Graduates will be eligible to earn a stackable vascular technology credential. This will build up the individual’s qualifications making them more marketable for employment. South Carolina employers have consistently asked for dual trained/credentialed sonographers and this certificate meets that need and fills in the skills gap.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Apply knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology/hemodynamics, and pathophysiology to assess and analyze the vascular system with sonography.
- Demonstrate hands-on skill proficiency and good clinical decision-making to obtain quality vascular exams that document pathology adequately.
- Interpret vascular studies and provide an oral and written summary of findings.
- Explain miscellaneous vascular testing methods and recognize abnormalities.
- State effective procedures for continuing sonographic education after graduation and throughout the sonography career.
