Paramedic, Certificate - PMD7
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Paramedic Certificate is designed for students currently working in the fire/rescue field who are certified as either South Carolina EMT or National Registry EMT. This certificate can be completed in three semesters with a total of 40 credit hours. Upon completion of this certificate program, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Paramedic Exam.

Program Notes
To become eligible for entry into the Paramedic certificate coursework, applicants must complete the following:
- Hold an unencumbered certification as a nationally registered EMT
- High School Diploma or GED
Note: Drug Testing and Background Check will be completed prior to the first semester courses.
This program is a Spring start only. Students who want to start in Fall or Summer may take prerequisite courses (if needed) or BIO 112.
Notes About Individual Classes
Prerequisite for all EMT coursework is RDG 100/RWR 100 or appropriate placement test scores. Work Keys scores of five for Reading for Information and four for Locating Information would also satisfy the reading prerequisite.
Prerequisites for BIO 112 are ENG 100 and RDG 100, or RWR 100, and a minimum grade of C in MAT 032 and MAT 012, or appropriate placement test scores.

Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Paramedic Certificate is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Comprehend, apply, and evaluate information relative to the role of an entry level Paramedic.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in all of the skills necessary to fulfill the role of an entry level Paramedic.
- Apply behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations of an entry-level paramedic.
- Comprehend basic EMS (Emergency Medical Services) knowledge necessary to function in a healthcare setting.
Accreditation Information
The EMT-Paramedic program at [institution] has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT an accreditation status; it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
