Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Landscape Design and Installation Certificate is to cultivate enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and skilled professionals that are equipped for careers in the field of landscape design and the installation of plants and hardscapes by providing them with theoretical and hands-on, industry and research backed training in the latest landscape design and installation sciences, practices, technologies and equipment.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to perform maintenance and/or operate equipment and tools specific to the horticultural industry safely and correctly.
- Students will be able to explain concepts of tree biology, identification, planting and maintenance practices, including pruning, tree risk assessment and disease management.
- Students will be able to produce attractive and functional landscape designs that meet client goals and expectations.
- Students will be able to interpret landscape plans and install plants and other landscape features according to specifications.
- Students will be able to properly identify and discuss the utilization of annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs common to South Carolina.
- Students will be able to utilize relevant horticultural computer programs.
- Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of business principles needed to start and run a horticulture business.
